Thank you for a wonderful show in Atlanta on 11/4/05.  You and Danny were both superb.
Alexandria, VA
October 31, 2005
Your Halloween night show at the Birchmere was stupendous.  Best I've ever seen.
Beautiful warm Halloween night in old Alexandria. A ghoul in the White House, wolves at the door. A perfect evening for balancing precariously on the knife's edge of Richard's guitar. A tale retold of the lunatic boy who hid in the dark cursing and laughing at his shadow. A dream of death, illusionasia. Merci RT.
We caught Richad's fabulous performance on Halloween,
Oct 31 at the Birchmere in Alexandria, Virginia, and
loved every second of it. Danny was exquisite with his
beautiful bowing technique on upright bass, and
Richard's voice was over the top fantastic. Crowd
favorites were definitely "Crawl back" and a
spectacular version of Beeswing with vocal
embellishments that gave me goose bumps from head to
toe. I was particularly thrilled to hear the
heartbreaking "For Whose Sake" from the new cd "Front
Parlor Ballads." What a beautiful and uplifting
performance! Two solid hours and two encores later, we
would have listened all night. What a joy to see him
in action.

Hi Richard,
Just arrived from your concert with Joan Baez in the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. I'm still moved by your guitar playing. Thanks!

i just saw richard last night at town hall. a wonderful show. i wish i could be there again tonight. all day i've been singing his songs to myself. what a treasure. i feel so lucky to know about him and to be able to listen to his wonderful music whenever i want to. all that, plus cute and funny! wow.
Great show at Town Hall, NYC (10/27/2005)! Come back soon!
Saw the show last night at Town Hall NYC. Bloody brillant! Question: What was the last song of the encore?
Both shows were so consistently good and professionally produced; almost bookends. RT's embellishments of the standard favorites were the best ever. The signature send-off--Ghost in the Wind--did real justice to Richard' and
Danny's collaboration. As ever, love...

I just saw Richard at the McCarter Theater in Princeton and was blown away by his guitar playing. I'm miles behind him. Danny is also an amazing musician. I got to speak briefly with him after the show, he is a great guy.
I was at McCarter Theater for the show last night. It was Richard and Danny, and the show was unbelievable. They played a nice mix of old and new, and everything seemed fresh. Richard was so energized. He tore the place apart with 52 Vincent and Beeswing, spooked us with Al Bowly and Ghost In The Wind, slayed us with Dimming The Day and Waltzing's For Losers, and cracked us up with a new one, "Ive Got The Hots For The Smarts" and Alexander Graham Bell. They literally had to kick him off the stage, turning on the house lights during his second encore, a nifty rendition of Don't Sit On My Jimmy Shands. It was an amazing night and he is truly an inspiration. Thank you Richard and Danny.
Saw the show at McCarter theatre in Princeton last night. RT just keeps getting better, and let it be known, that Danny Thompson is officially a god of the upright bass. It was nice to hear Jimmy Shands again though some of us are still holding out for Smiffy's Glass Eye. This tour should be recorded, the empathy between the 2 un-brothers Thompson is simply sublime.
Great show in Princeton on Tuesday! Danny's great, too!
Somerville, MA
October 24, 2005
Just went to last nights Sommerville Theater concert
Very Good!! Can't wait for a electric show too...Let us know
I first heard RT's music about 35 years ago, which doesn't quite qualify as "my whole life". Thanks for the show in Somerville, MA on Monday. It was the second time I've seen him play live. Would like to know when there are new tours scheduled.
I believe I attended the birth of a new (to me, anyway) band format at the Somerville theater last night: the acoustic power trio.  But "power trio" doesn't do justice to the deft, nuanced  rhythmic and melodic interplay among Messers Thompson, Thompson and Mattacks.  Regardless of a song's genre--ballad, surf rocker, jazz shuffle, polka!--or familiarity, some new sensibility ran through each and the time just flew.  Sheer bliss.  Thanks as always for making the New England autumn truly spectacular (even this dreary one).  And thank you for "Pharoah."  Too bad some laments stay so relevant across the ages.
Saw Richard at Sommerville Theatre in Boston, MA last night?great acoustics, and ambience. A truly "adventurous" balladeer at his best...
RT is the supreme artist. I can't believe that he only uses two hands to play his guitar, while the rest of us would need three! I saw him for the 4th time last night at the Somerville Theater in Somverville, MA and he was eletrifying! He gets better with each appearance. He is the rarest of the rare; an intellectual, a comedian, singer/songwriter and virtuoso musician, what more can one say about him? WOW!
Saw the show on October 24 at the Somerville Theatre. Many compliments; I felt it was a great snapshot of RT's career (but admit I'm only just learning the library). I was somewhat disappointed that he played Persuasion, although it is certainly a most gorgeous song, mostly because the people were yelling it out between songs and to have him do it was giving them what they wanted, but it took something away from its preciousness for me. Thanks so much for being generous with your time; you played for a solid two + hours where many musicians now seem to play only for a bit more than an hour. Great time. And Danny is also top-notch!
Just saw Richard again _ this time at Somerville Theater in Mass. Another superb performance.
My wife and I immensely enjoyed the show at the Somerville Theater last night. First time we've seen Richard live - great.
Richard's Somerville Theater show hit the spot! When is that songbook coming?!
Thank you so very much. I was so excited to hear King of Bohemia again live. That song is amazing. It was a great show, you all played so well. I brought my girlfriend there and it was her first time at one of your shows. She loved it. Thanks for a great night and wonderful music.
Nyack, NY
October 22, 2005
Saw you at the Helen Hayes theater in Nyack Sat. night and you both were fantastic!  Actually I'd never even heard of you (wince) until I went to see Freedy Johnston  who opened for you at the Tarrytown Music Hall a couple of years ago.  I was absolutely floored - best concert I'd seen in a long time.  Anyway, my question is - why didn't you play the first track off your new album, "Let It Blow"?  We were yelling it out, but you STILL didn't play it!  I think that's the best track on the album and quite humorous.  See you next time!
Albany, NY
October 21, 2005
really liked the vitality of his recent show in albany's egg!
Toronto, Canada
October 20, 2005
I saw Richard for the first time last night in Toronto and was absolutely blown away - brilliant!
Thursday, October 21st. Trinity St Pauls....Toronto
What a wonderful concert. I think I saw RT beam at times. Great to be introduced to Eliza G also.
Sitting above the stage looking down, we could see everyone was transfixed by both performances. Heard some interesting new songs from RT....especially the one about Bell, and dating a smart girl...very funny. RT would get a kick out of Woody Allen?s essay about the call girl for intellectuals. Now, I HAVE to wonder....why oh why, is Richard Thompson so unknown to the general public? He should be AT LEAST be playing at Massey Hall. Cannot find a review of last Thursday anywhere on the internet. This is disappointing. Eric Clapton said RT was one of his all time faves. WELL..... If Eric Clapton can play on Buddy Guy albums, and tribute albums to Stevie Ray Vaughan how about an ERIC CLAPTON - RICHARD THOMPSON album, or better yet......a TV show. Get your publicist on that. I am sure Eric is looking for challenging things to do ? and playing with RT would certainly be a challenge! We don?t want to see poor old Richard at age 90 traipsing across North America cause he needs the money. He should be able to retire comfortably. Perhaps some Front Porch Ballads would come out of that???? We promise to buy. Cheers, from a Very Polite Canadian - too shy to ask for an autograph!!!
Pittsburgh, PA
October 18, 2005
Last night's acoustic concert was one of the most outstanding I've ever seen. Thank you.
Milwaukee, WI
October 15, 2005
What a great pleasure to see Richard last night at Alverno College.
Opening the show was a very interesting Eliza Gilkyson, who's another good example of great music "flying under the radar." How is it that I haven't already heard her? If you like Emmylou, or Lucinda, or Sheryl Crow, or Baez, or Judy Collins ... give her a listen. Great songs, an easy-going guitar style and a fun stage presence.
I must say that in maybe nine or ten shows I've never seen Richard play better. The show was entirely acoustic and Richard and Danny played for two hours. They took numerous requests from the audience and sprinkled the set list with a mix of old favorites and stuff off "Front Parlour Ballads." Great to hear, by request, "Down Where the Drunkards Roll," Gethsemane" and "Misunderstood," et al, and great versions of "Hokey Pokey," "Vincent Black Lightning," "Beeswing," "Wall of Death," etc, etc. Richard continues to amaze with incredible solos dropped into songs that make the great even better.
And I have never seen Danny better. Their rapport borders on the mystical, and Danny's playing simply transcends. I can think of no better duo. And Danny speaks! When an audience member shouted out "Misunderstood," Danny asked, "y'mean 'Don't let me be misunderstood?'" to laughter all around. And when the request-shouters threatened to take over, Richard said "We could be here all night," which sounded like a good idea to everyone, but Danny advised, simply, "He knows what he's doing."
Couldn't help but notice the "mature" crowd that Richard attracts (note to self: buy Grecian Formula stock), but was encouraged to be part of an enthusiastic crowd of followers. After the second song of the second encore Richard broke a string (I believe it was the "A" string) and announced "I guess that's it."
If only he could have played all night. Thanks, Richard. Come back again soon.
Just saw Richard in concert here in Milwaukee. Thanks for a great concert.
I just saw Richard last night at Alverno's Pittman Theater. It was fantastic. Such a full rich sound. Hate to admit I have none of his music. I have listened to him on public radio for years.
I was at the Oct. 16, 2005 show in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. What a great show!
Just saw the 2 shows in Chicago and 1 in Milwaukee. Always great to see Richard and Danny together. We are all looking forward to the next tour with the band too
It's been a little over a week since I saw Richard at the Pitman Theatre in Milwaukee and I'm still savoring the experience! The Pitman is a great intimate venue. From my first row seat, I enjoyed a close-up view of Richard's awesome guitar playing, and delighted in watching his expressive face and witty interactions with the audience and Danny. There was a nice mix of old and new material. I had hoped to hear "Miss Patsy", and was surprised and happy that it was included. Richard's voice was better than ever and Danny's bass added just the right amount of depth to the music. The overall sound was so clear and strong that at times I found myself closing my eyes to just listen.
Thank you so much, Richard, Danny, and Simon, (and Eliza too for a great opening act). Come back to Milwaukee and Wisconsin soon. We cheeseheads love you!
Chicago, IL
October 13, 2005
The Chicago concert was the best I've been to. Richard seemed more relaxed than at any other show. The acoustic "Shoot out the Lights" was probably the best live performance I've seen him give, though it's pretty hard to sort that at. Thanks, RT, for a great show.
St. Paul, MN
October 12, 2005
Loved the concert last night at Fitzgerald in St. Paul, MN. UNfortunately the top balcony acoustics were not good. could not understand all the words, wasn't the dialect. Music mix sounded too heavy on bass. Lost some key words. Do you have lyrics printed/available? What an artist! how fun! my favorite was even sung in the encore! Break somebody's heart tonight. So witty. Come back to see us again! next time I will order tickets right away!
Thanks for the solid performance last night in St. Paul, MN.
Just saw richard in st.paul acoustic with danny. Great as usual seems to get better with age. I do have to catch him electric tho.
I saw you at the Fitzgerald last night and realized how old you must be when you sang "I was 19 in the summer of love" as was I. Nineteen love weaves through all the loves that follow. Oh to yearn that way again. Thanks fo all you do. And for keeping the flash in your eyes.
I just went to his show at the Fitzgerald Theater in St. Paul, MN, and it was amazing. Always a great show!
Boulder, CO
October 10, 2005
My husband and I are big fans. We go to his yearly concerts at the Chatauqua Auditorium in Boulder Colorado every summer. We recently saw him perform at the Boulder Theater in Boulder Colorado. It was a truly great performance. We hope to see many more.
Seattle, WA
October 8, 2005
Richard Thompson's recent concert in Seattle was wonderful. I've only missed one Seattle concert in the past ten years. Richard is an artistic genius.
Saw the show w/ Danny at Recital Hall in Seattle; first show! Just the best! Thank you!
We saw Richard at Benaroya Hall in Seattle last Saturday. Our 18 year old son is now a fan. Richard is an amazing musician and presents his music with light and humor. He is an old soul. Richard, come back to Seattle soon!
Richard and Danny's show in Seattle 10-08-05 was tremendous. Both were in fine form. It was the 4th time I've seen Richard. It was as good as one solo show I saw him give in Atlanta about 8 years ago (and that one was jaw-droppingly spectacular). What a mad brilliant hilarious cat! A performer's performer, a consummate professional. Hey Richard, if you read this - THANKS! I left the show last night not only feeling like I got my money's worth, but like I still owed you more. Love the new recording, too.
Last night's show at the Nordstrom Recital Hall was nothing less than amazing. From our second row seats, my sweetie and I marveled at the energy, the spirit, and the richness of the music as well as the camaraderie of Richard Thompson and Danny Thompson. After so many years and so many shows, Richard's voice is otherwordly wonderful and we remain convinced that he has to have three hands to play a guitar like that. I was on the edge of tears a couple of times, and laughing out of my seat at others. At all times, I was nearly breathless with awe and delight. Well done, fellas! Come back soon!
Caught your Seattle show last night. FANTASTIC. We continue to be blessed by your music, its beauty and humour. Best wishes for a fantastic tour. We'll come see you every time you come to Seattle.
Portland, OR
October 7, 2005
Another amazing show at the Aladdin. RT is now channeling Charlie Christian. It's just not fair...
Saw the show in Portland, Oregon 10/7/05. My little mind was blown. Prompted by a comment RT made during the performance, I visited the web site and watched the video for "Let It Blow," which I was delighted to see was directed by my good friend Henry Kaiser.
San Francisco, CA

Just saw Richard do a private concert at radio staion KFOG San Francisco. He was magical, I was spellbound. Thanks for the music Richard.

After looking at the bio in a music book , I went to see the Paris concert and it was one of the best concert of my life and I have seen a lot!!!! Magnifique
truly great concert at Le java in Paris on monday. well done
Berlin, Germany
September 3, 2005
Last night Richard Thompson gave a phantastic concert at Quasimodo. Richard Thompson was in good mood. The setlist was a mixture between new and old songs. He played only a few songs from his lastest album. The classical songs from "Shoot out the lights" and "I want to see the bright lights tonight" were the highlights of the evening. We are looking forward to his next visit in Berlin.
Hamburg,Germany
September 2, 2005
I made the 350km trip to Hamburg to see Richard's show at the KNUST-Club. As always with RT, this was simply one of the best shows and musical experiences I've ever had. I've never ever seen or heard an acoustic guitarist who plays with so much emotion, virtuosity and drive at the same time - a revelation. My only hope is that he will come to Germany more often in the future.
Thanks for giving a wonderful performance at the "Knust" (by the way, it's pronounced "cnoost", it's not Knut the Norwegian King like you thought ;-). The sound was great, the show was faultless. Yikes!
my wife and me really enjoyed your concert in Hamburg on Friday! A very nice mix of old and new stuff, although I think many would have appreciated one or two more songs from Front Parlour Ballads, I really missed "The Boys of Mutton Street" and "A Solitary Life". Maybe you underestimate your foreign audiences when being a bit reserved with the new material. The couple of people I talked to before and after the show already own a copy of Front Parlour Ballads since its release and do really appreciate the new songs. It is nice to hear some old favourites, but everyone likes to hear something unexpected.
Oslo, Norway
August 31st, 2005
RT in Oslo on the 31st of August was absolutely fab! Please don't let it go another 3 years will ya!! I for one is 'stunned' - unbelievable live performance - stuff from 'Parlour' was amazingly live!!
Got my bottom rocked (ha ha) on Wednesday, right in front of stage. Great experience for an old guitar player, man you have got yourself a new dedicated fan. And I think I must add a Lowden to my collection!! Thanks, Richard!
Great gig in Oslo yesterday!
Amsterdam, NL
August 29th, 2005
Been to the concert in de Melkweg, Amsterdam, 29/8 and it was so so great and wonderfull. Enjoyed every second. Thanks for a great performance!
JUST SEEN/HEARD A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE IN AMSTERDAM!
London, UK
August 25th, 2005
I saw the last show at the Lyric Hammersmith (25th August), the first time I've seen Richard live. It was fantastic! So many good songs, sung and played so powerfully. Excellent guitar-playing, and - being an amateur bass guitarist myself - it's always nice to hear someone as good as Danny Thompson on the grown-up bass. It says a lot about Richard's music and about the quality of last night's performance that I felt short-changed by a mere two encores. I thought 'He's done two hours, and there's still another 300 great songs he hasn't done yet. I look forward to Richard's next London shows, and I'll be buying the new album tomorrow.
London, UK
August 24th, 2005
I just wanted to say thank you for the concert last night at the Lyric. We had excellent tickets for the second row and really had a great time. Hokey Pokey was much appreciated- my first girlfriend had a copy of Shoot out the Lights back in 71 when I was at Exeter Uni and I know that there is a running joke about the paucity of sales of Henry the Human Fly but we had a copy of that in our student pad. Anyway, you were terrific. I am looking forward to the thousand years DVD eagerly as I saw you do that at Sadlers Wells. Come back soon!
saw the show in hammersmith last night,it was great.
I was at RTs concert at the Hammersmith Lyric last Wednesday and have only just come back down to earth! What a fantastic gig! RT's guitar playing was superb and I don't think his voice has ever sounded so good - 'Ghosts in the Wind' was spine-tingling and in all the years I've been going to see him in concert I've never heard a better version of 'Al Bowlly'. Why don't you tour more often, Richard?
London, UK
August 23rd, 2005
Dear fellow Belgian RT fans,
Here's the best vacation tip I can give: go to London with one of your best friends, visit that great city and catch a RT concert in the evening. Last Tuesday we got a fine support act, a 2 hour concert with Danny Thompson and encores with his daughter. What an experience to be among RT fans who not only admire him, but who treat him as one of their own. Practise some English humour before you leave for London.
Brussels, BE
August 20th, 2005
Today Richard performed in Brussels, accompanied by Danny Thompson. It was a great show. Unfortunately they had to stop after an hour because they were part of a festival. I'm certain the setlist contained more songs and RT was surprised their time had run up. He pleaded with the sound manager, but one encore and that was that. Then the sound would go dead. It's truly a pity there are no concert directors asking him and it's getting rare to see and listen him more often in this country. And then he's got to stop, while the man has the material to play a show how long he wants to. Sad times for true artists. Most of the songs they performed you all know, there were some couple of songs from his new album. But once again, hard to find that one in the music shops.
Yesterday's gig on the Grote Markt in Brussels was great as ever, but definitely too short. Good to see Danny Thompson again, though he looked a lot thinner, I hope
his health situation is alright. I was not waring a Hawkwind t-shirt (as RT remarked) but a Neville Brothers one.
Edinburgh, UK
August 17th, 2005
Attended 2 of the shows in Edinburgh, and both were incredible. I've been listening to Richard's music for over 30 years, but this was the first time I'd seen him play live. The intuition between Richard and Danny Thompson, and the jaw dropping guitar work on virtually everything ...there aren't the superlatives to do it justice! Also, Richard's singing was wonderful. He even did "Genesis Hall" provoking tears from several punters. Long may you run, Richard! Come back to Scotland soon!
just saw richard in edinburgh with danny thompson. thought the show was great, he just gets better. i was lucky enough to meet richard in the national galleries of scotland in edinburgh the day before the show, to bump into one one of your musical heroes was just fantastic, a real honor for me.
Great show last night (17.8.'05) @ Queens Hall Edinburgh!
I saw Richard live in Edinburgh last night, and sadly he was superb! I was hoping I wouldn't be too impressed, so I wouldn't have to buy his entire back catalogue, but it looks as though I will have to after all. Can't wait!!
Edinburgh, UK
August 16th, 2005
I was at the Queen’s Hall last Tuesday for RT’s concert and t’was yet another great set. My partner and I were at the Brampton Festival but only caught the end of his set as we’d wanted to see Hayseed Dixie. It was lucky he did so many encores. Edinburgh is the place I’ve seen RT the most, including the Queen’s Hall (3 or 4 times – I lose count!), the Usher Hall, The Festival Theatre and St Mary’s Cathedral. On the Old Kit Bag tour I nearly got on the guest list as my mum’s cousin works for Serious but he forgot to put my name down and it was only due to his colleague’s kindness that I got one of the seats the venue puts aside. I then found myself sitting next to Malcolm Jones of Runrig who I’ve seen at a couple of other RT gigs.
Edinburgh, UK
August 15th, 2005
I was at Richard's Queens Hall gig last night - a really great night.
I dont know if you have the opportunity to pass on mail or comments to Richard Thompson, but in case you, I just wanted to say that I was at the Edinburgh gig last night and thought it was utterly sublime, one of the most wonderful live performances I've ever been lucky enough to hear. Just magical.
Saw Richard at the Queens Hall Endinburgh last night, (Tuesday 16th August 2005). Another superb performance! Also, love the new CD.
Banbury, UK
August 13th, 2005
Saw Richard at Cropredy 2005. Fantastic. Richard's music has been extremely important to me (although I'm sure he'd be embarassed by such comments). Long may he run.
The Cropredy set blew me away. The music will stay with me forever. Converted me from 'interested' to 'hooked'! Thanks, Richard.
i saw you at cropredy and it was great thank you .
After the mesmeric and truly genius-driven Friday night's masterpiece set from Richard, he then strode on stage with Fairport on the Saturday night.  The atmosphere was instantly more charged, the old, familiar style flooded out and the set was completely transformed. This man is the complete artist, skilled in the extreme both with guitar and while voicing the poetry of his lyrics, and he has that all-important star-dusted on-stage persona which is growing with time and which can so take your breath away. Thank you Richard for your wonderful music. Off now to the Lyric in London for more delights!!
I have waited 35 years to see Richard play and now I have seen him perform twice in 2 days at Cropredy 2005. I now know the man is a genius. Thw acoustic set on the Friday night was brilliant. To see and hear 1952 Vincent Black Lightning played as though it being performed by 2 guiters will live with me for ever. How does he do it? I have had my Thompsom and Fairport albums on the turntable all week. Hope you can make Cropredy next year.
had the opportunity to go to cropredy this year.
if i have the opportunity again, i will return. i didn't even mind standing in the rain, waiting for my autograph and the opportunity to squeek out "hello". looking forward to october and the shows in chicago at the park west (i only have to take the night off work and travel by car, instead of looking for my passport...)
thank you for wonderful memories and music
saw you at Cropredy this year...fantastic show...but was gutted that I had to leave a day early to go to a wedding...and missed your signing on the Saturday..was desperate to meet you and have any number of cd's signed by you...never mind..maybe one day...
Really enjoyed the Cropredy gig. Best gig ever: Round Chapel, Islington. Thanks
Banbury, UK
August 12th, 2005
Dear Richard, I saw you play this weekend at the Cropredy Festival and would like to tell you that you're amazing! Your songs are gorgeous and putting them on makes many a day so much nicer to go about. Thankyou! Very Best Wishes xx
New York, NY
August 9th, 2005
Saw RT at J&R in NYC yesterday, and actually got an autographed copy of FPB. He is much more three-dimensional in person. Interesting mix of people attending, with the usual cool folks and the anoraks well-represented.

Great seeing RT at Joe's Pub in NYC on August 8. Awesome to see him perform in such an intimate atmosphere - our seats were right at the stage and he was so nice to sign our ticket stubs after the show. Thanks for all the music!
We just came from Richard's Front Parlor Songs CD release show at Joe's Pub in NYC. This was my first time seeing him live after listening to his records for over twenty years. I was nervous to hear him live because I didn't want anything to mar my imagined, cherished notions of him gotten from appreciation of his recorded songs. Well, he more than fulfilled my expectations and hopefully this won't be the last show that my husband and I attend. I was particularly struck by how rich and full the sound of his voice and guitar were, due it seemed to more than just the effects and amplification. I felt at once at ease and exhilarated and was intrigued by the new songs. It was especially easy to understand and visualize the lyrics. I spoke to a few other people who have seen him live many times, and they all were as devoted and admiring of him and his work as I have been. I like to think of myself as a person not easily swayed by personality, but I must admit to being a fan now even more than before.
Newburyport, MA
August 7th, 2005
Newburyport was a Fantastic show -- my first in 16 years. I've been living in Spain, where you don't tour! Come on over and jam with Carlos Nunez, Radio Tarifa or Tomatito!
The concert last night was excellent - and I cannot believe Richard was playing on a borrowed Taylor - student level Taylor at that! It was wonderful.
Newburyport show was great!!Tonight was my first RT concert and he was absolutely wonderful!!   I'm a redhead and dangit, I'm going out to get a black leather jacket!
Seriously, it was a great show and I look forward to others in this area.   How does Richard keep up the pace though? He has gigs every night this week it seems.

The concert last night was excellent - and I cannot believe Richard was playing on a borrowed Taylor - student level Taylor at that! It was wonderful.
Just a quick note to say that I just saw the show at Newburyport High School and came away feeling sky high. What a gift your music is. Thanks, thanks, thanks...
Newport, RI
August 6th, 2005
Just got back fron the newport folk fest.....I've never been to such a mellow festival in my life...not enough dancing in my humble opinion.... but I loved it ...(can't beat the scenery, and the free iced coffee was just grand).... I'm recently divorced (...for the first time) and the flavor of your set was just what I needed...looking forward to the new cd....thanks for signing my copy of Chrono Show ...you've been my favorite guitar weilding troubador for years and at the risk of sounding Gallway to Gracelandesque.....you have the kindest eyes......
Saw Mr. T at the Newport Folk Festival - sublime, as always.
Huntington, NY
August 5th, 2005
Saw Richard Fri nite at Huntington, NY's IMAC Theater. His singing and guitar playing were flawless as usual, but he seemed just a bit more serious/somber. Perhaps something was bothering him?
Hi, I just saw Richard at the Imac in Huntington. I have seen him many times, but this show was just over the top. People in the audience calling out crowd favorites & Richard actually doing many of them...I was really blown away. Thanks for Pharoah! PS...Please tell Richard to maybe consider taking a small intermission during a show. Most of us in the bathroom at the end, waited the entire show to take a piss. That says alot about a performer!
Just saw Richard at IMAC...as always, he takes my breath away.
i have seen richard perform at imac in huntington ny , both in nov.'03 and aug. '05. both performances were extraordinarily phenominal.please let me know when he will be preforming in my neck of the woods in the further. once again, i tip my cap to richard bravo!

Brampton Live. A special evening. Thanks.
Just seen him at Brampton Live. Never better!!
Birmingham, UK

I would just like to join with the general comments regarding Richard's Birmingham MAC Arena performance. It was a pleasure to actually see him in Brum again - the first time I've seen him there since the early 70's. The set was excellent, and the intimacy of the venue made for an unforgettable evening, apart from the (joke?) comment about Macaroni to MACarena...oh dear...
Saw Richard at the Mac Arena in Birmingham last Saturday (23 July). It was a truly wonderful evening. The venue is great and Richard commented that he didn't know why he'd not been there before. Here's hoping he'll be back soon.
Hi Richard - What a wonderful, electric (albeit acoustic) performance at the Theatre in the Round in Birmingham last night (23 July 2005). Sat in second row --brilliant position to complement the great sound of new and old songs. As I said, a great gig -- one of the best I've attended. You obviously equally
enjoy the atmosphere of a smaller, closer audience.
Dear Richard.  I would like to thank you for such a fantastic performance at The Midlands Arts Centre, Birmingham, UK last night.  You truly are a genius.

Richard, we achieved an ambition yesterday when we saw you doing your wonderful acoustic solo set at the MAC in Brum. Previously we've only caught the electric sets.
Last night was special and was everything and more we hoped it would be. Thank you and we hope you'll do it again one day.
Saw Richard at MAC last night...brilliant!
San Diego, CA
July 14th, 2005
Last night my wife and I attended Richard's concert at Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego. We've seen himself numerous times, and last night was the usual high quality show. We loved the new material and we're looking forward to the upcoming release of the new album. Interestingly, there were three chatty "socialite" women sitting behind us (there for the second act, Ladysmith, I believe) who would not shut up during the early part of the set, until "Cold Kisses" that is. That song just shut them up, in fact, the whole audience seemed spellbound! Not a fidget to be seen or a whisper to be heard. Talk about having the audience in the palm of your hand! A memorable show!

By the way, we enjoyed talking to Richard's son before the show. He was minding the store at the CD sales table and seemed a very likable young bloke indeed.
Just saw Richard at Humphreys in San Diego this last week. He was his usual wonderful self playing us his great music!
Philadelphia, PA
July 1st, 2005
Thank you for an extraordinary show in Philadelphia on July 1st at World Cafe.It was amazing to see you play up close; the only other guitarist I ever saw with such dexterity and sense of melody was Rory Gallagher, and I was close enough that I got to strum a bit on his beloved Strat when he held it over my head. To see you in a venue like XPN's was a real treat.  I doubt that there are many more like it in this country, or the world, for that matter.  I hope that this can be the start of a tradition of sorts for you and our city, whenever you're not 'gardening' or whatnot at home! Best of luck on your new album (I still have trouble saying CD) release, and I'll probably see you in Princeton in October.
Amenia, NY
June 29th, 2005
saw you at amenia, ny concert. awesome. the best music i have heard live in years. please come back.
let me know when the new cd is ready. hearing you live restored my libido to the max. oh keep that music coming.
The Troutbeck concert in Amenia, NY was absolutely mesmerizing.  Richard took musical (and ad libbed) risks in that intimate setting that gave the concert the full sound of old vinyl with nothing digitally excised.  Hard on Me swung us in a delirious arc like rope-swinging out over a deep quarry and the plunge was electrifying.  Shoot Out The Lights hung like lightning in the air.  Stretching the boundaries so far and so brilliantly was a gift to witness with so little (literally as well as figuratively) between Richard and the audience.  Risking intimacy in a small venue must help keep his creative edge keen, and it certainly meant a great deal to two long-time fans to be able to leave the kids with a sitter and drive just down the road holding tickets 41 and 42 out of 300 and be part of such wild magic.
Dear Beekeeper- If RT could get this message it would be great. At his Amenia concert June 29 he was, as usual, brilliant.I also enjoyed the previous nights gig at the World Trade Plaza- I say, I'm a real fan....
Great performance by RT in a cozy setting of only 300 seats.  A beautiful setting up at a restaurant/hotel in rural upstate NY.  I hope that RT enjoyed playing there as I much as I enjoyed seeing the show in such an intimate setting.
Of all the years attending RT's shows both large and small, the evening at Troutbeck was one of the most delightful. Please, please plan to play this venue again in the future!
New York, NY
June 28th, 2005
Just saw you at world financial center in lower manhattan, what a great show, what balls all alone with a crowd wall street new yorkers!
Thank you for the wonderful show last night at the World Financial Center. We all enjoyed it. We appreciate your energy, which came through despite the heat of a humid sticky night. Thanks.
Saw another great RT concert last night in NYC at the Hudson River Fest. Almost had the pleasure of literally running into Mr. Thompson inside the World Financial Center. I arrived early for the show and bought a tea and was about to sit down when I noticed him being escorted by security to the gree room. My manners kicked in, though, and rather than closing the 20' gap that separated us, I just sat down in the lobby. I would have liked to greet him in person; maybe the next time!
The show at WFC was super! great to see/hear RT live.
Great show at World Financial Center Tuesday evening - I've had "Pharaoh" playing in my head the past three days (and if it persists much longer I'm going to need help). Thanks for a wonderful evening.
I saw your solo show at the World Financial Center in NYC and it was fantastic. What influences affect your performance? And why no Kenny G. jokes that night? (Although you did reference him on your WFUV live broadcast two days later.)
My wife (a convert) and I saw Richard at the World Financial Center show and we're blown away by the man and his guitar. I was only disappointed by the lack of Kenny G. jokes. However, two nights later on a WFUV live broadcast he didn't disappoint. (Where does he hide that second guitarist?)

I just saw and heard you playing up close last night at the Kate Wolf Festival. Depth and humor of lyrics, guitar playing, I will own a CD [or two or three] of yours within a week. Made my Sunday.
Well yes! Last night in wavy gravy land I enjoyed your wildly, artistic ,masterful, poetic, sublimely intelligent performance at the Kate Wolf Festival. Please, Please, come back next year, because you are such a cool cutie pie.By god, we love you!
Saw him at Kate Wolf Sunday night for the first time - flawless! - I want the boxed set when it comes out
I was able to hear Richard Thompson for the first time at the Live Oak Festival down close to Santa Barbara. He closed out the festival and I have never in my life heard anyone play guitar like he did. To say that Richard Thompson is awesome in concert is one big understatement.
Jacksonville, OR
June 25th, 2005
My wife and I saw you last night at the Britt (Oregon). Thank you.You are one of the very best musicians and performers of our age. Thanks again and you have two new loyal fans!
I got to see one of my heroes last night in Jacksonville Oregon. I am a better musician because of RT and after seeing him play solo last night I am still over the moon. What an amazing show. I have never been to a concert where every song is an old favorite or a new one. I cannot wait for the new album. Thanks for an incredible evening.
I've had the pleasure of spending a little time with RT and seeing him at work many times, the latest being last night in Oregon! He always gets better....
An adventure in good music! Most appreciative of RT's talent, diversity of art, and uncompromised style. Attended my first RT concert on Saturday, 25 June 05 at Brit in Jacksonville, Oregon.
Bøulder, CO
June 21st, 2005
As always, thank you for a powerful show and for the 4 new tunes! Thanks for bringing the torrential rain.
My 22 yr old son joined me for the first time and loved it. Even though he has been listening to you his entire life, live was a real treat. For the 20-someth time, life would not be the same without you.
The Flower Lady in Boulder
Santa Barbara, CA
June 19th, 2005
just saw richard at the live oaks festival near santa barbara, california. he closed the three day fest and was his terrific self. fun to see the reactions of the unfamiliar. haven't heard the new acoustic album but the old kit bag just gets better with each listen. the vocal on love you can't survive is amazing.
Santa Cruz, CA
June 18th, 2005
I attended Richard's performance in Santa Cruz June 18; he seemed to be under the weather-perhaps a cold- but nonetheless gave an enjoyable performance. I have heard these songs delivered at full throttle, and enjoyed his cruise-control renditions as they revealed further proof of Richard's depth as a performer. A sports analogy about playing hurt would work fine here.
Come to Santa Cruz more than 1x per year. It takes chutzpah to have Drunkards Row as a first sing-along at a show!
What a really, really fun show at The Rio Theatre in Santa Cruz on Saturday. Thank you for fitting us in. Awesome set list: Hokey Pokey, Walking on Wire, Persuasion (sorry for interrupting your intro by giving away the song), Dimming of the Day, Bathsheba Smiles, Sibella. You were on fire! And funny as hell. Great Sing alongs, too. What a great treat for the encore, George playing harmonica on Cooksferry Queen and Keep Your Distance. George smoked!
Iowa City, IA
June 3rd, 2005
I'm a Brit living in the US and just saw Richard perform in Iowa City for the first time. He did a great job, especially considering that not everyone there was necessarily a fan. Good on you Richard!
Saw you last night in Iowa City - fabulous, as usual. I continue to amazed at your high level of muscianship and energy. I've seen you 4 times - once with a full band, and 3 times solo - and every time you're wonderful.
Thanks for a great show in Iowa City and talking with us afterwards. You put alot into your music. Come back soon. Best wishes from the gal who had nothing for you to autograph.
I saw Richard live in Iowa City June 4th. It was the best acoustic solo show I've ever seen, which includes Warren Zevon and Paul Westerberg. Not only was his guitar playing great, but he had the crowd transfixed. It was a fantastic show and I'd like to see Richard perform with a full band sometime. Thanks for coming to IC Richard, you were great and we appreciate it!
Little Rock, AR
May 27th, 2005
We came down to the Riverfest thing in Little Rock and I thought it was really good, I enjoyed seeing just you and Danny. I really enjoyed the song selection and the musicianship.
Saw your show in Little Rock, Arkansas this spring and, as always, thoroughly enjoyed the music. Even though there were some sound problems initially, you and your entire crew were very understanding and gracious in handling the problems. It's such a priveledge to hear you perform live.
Nashville, TN
May 26th, 2005
The only previous time I saw Richard was last fall in Ann Arbor on the 1000 Years tour, and I've been looking forward to seeing him perform his own songs. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly the opportunity arose when Nashville showed up on this spring's tour. Richard's playing and singing were knockout, and Danny was amazing too. Now I just need to see Richard play the Strat.
Newport, KY
May 25th, 2005
I saw Richard perform last night in Newport, KY, for the first time, and was blown away. I am now a life long fan. Same age as me. Superb! My 20 y.o. daughter loved him also.
finally got to see the man live in concert, saw the may 25th show at southgate house in newport,ky. it was everthing i thought it would be and better. rt is magical with his song writing ability and guitar playing. it's too bad mainstream america has no clue what good music is. hope to catch some show close to ohio in the fall.
Just saw RT @ the Southgate in No. KY/Cincinnati. Incredible show. Lot's of people "get it" around here. Can't wait for a return engagement with full band!
Richard Thompson is amazing! I just saw him live for the first time at Southgate House. Tore the place down!!
Indianapolis, IN
May 24th, 2005
Thanks for playing Indy RT, the Music Mill is a wonderful venue and Danny was in fine form.
Just caught Richard @ Music Mill in Indianapolis, great show as was his last show in Indy @ Birdies. How about an electric tour stop in Indiana?
Easton, MD
May 22nd, 2005
I had the extraordinary privilege of seeing Richard Thompson and his standup bass player, whose name I am afraid I do not recall, perform at The Avalon Theatre in Easton, Md., where I live. It was my second experience listening to Richard live, the first being in the late 90s in Princeton, NJ, at the McCarter. There was one particular song they played Sunday night that mesmerized me. It was very magical, very Celtic. Particularly, the bass player used a bow several times. It was toward the end of the show or perhaps it was one of the encore songs--I now cannot remember exactly--but it blew me away. It appealed to the Teutonic/Celtic/Viking blood in me, that's for sure.
I am hoping perhaps it will be on Richard's new album? Please advise!
Want to thank RT for a great concert last night in Easton Maryland.
Having schlepped about the country to hear RT over the last 20 years, I didn't know whether it was a good sign or a bad sign careerwise when I heard he'd be playing right here in tiny River City aka Easton, MD. Well I shouldn't have succumbed to such low demographic self-esteem, it was a very good thing: intimate venue packed to the gills, RT fans from all over pouring into town, an invigorting acoustic show and a surprise treat--Danny Thompson on bass. A twofer in our town tonight. Do come back--I could get accustomed to the convenience of housecalls. Hope you loved the Avalon. And P.S. -thanks for the musical conterpoint to Larry Summers' "intrinsic aptitude" theory with Hots for the Smart.
Hi Richard, just saw you at Avalon Theater in Easton Maryland. Great show! Please come back to Avalon - a wonderful venue, and you and Danny seemed to really enjoy it as much as us....
I thoroughly enjoyed Richard's concert this past Sunday evening (May 22, 2005) at the Avalon Theater in Easton, Maryland. Although I've been a fan for 25 years this was my first Richard Thompson concert. With me was my girlfriend, who's now a brand-new Richard Thompson fan. Thanks so much for all the music. Richard -- please come back to Maryland's Eastern Shore anytime.
Mt. Tabor, NJ
May 21st, 2005
Saw Richard and Danny at this funky 300 seat venue. I've seen Richard dozens of times and this was special. Maybe the best musical performance I have ever witnessed. Absolute beauty.
Just arrived home from Richard's concert in Mt. Tabor -
out of this world, excellent.
Truly, non-pareil!!!
Thank you, Richard, for the inspiration.
Mr. Thompson,
I just wanted to thank you for an amazing night of music Saturday night, At The Tabernacle. Every soulful note made the 3 hour drive, and 3 hours in line worth it. Seeing your masterful guitar playing front row was an amazing experience. You are truly the best, and I thank you for inspiring everyone who adopts your music as their own. I am 24 years old and mad at myself for not immigrating towards your music earlier in life, I've cheated myself. I'm not sure if you'll read this, but THANK YOU!
Great show in Mt. Tabor Saturday night. The new songs were fantastic. Looking forward to the new CD.
Hello, I was at the 5/21 Mount Tabor show in NJ, it was a fantastic show. I have been lucky enough to see you a bunch of time. That Mt. tabor is a wild place, pretty surreal.
As well as Alexander Graham Bell in a song it was great to hear Tesla mentioned, what a crazy genius he was.You have always had the best live acoustic sound of all.
just saw richard at the tabernacle in jersey --supoib!
Portland, ME
May 19th, 2005
Richard and Danny played an amazing show in Portland, Maine on Thursday night, May 19th. Starting with two fine new songs from his forthcoming album, Richard once again proved that he is comfortable with virtually every musical genre: rock, folk, blues, celtic--even comedy music! A whimsical tribute to Alexander Graham Bell and another to bright women "Hots For Smarts" were humorous highlights.
Of course, the sell-out crowd greatly enjoyed some of the older faves such as "1952 Vincent Black Lightning," "Beeswing" and "Wall of Death." "Persuasion" was simply incredible. Goosebumps popping up all over.
The second encore and the show came to a stunning conclusion with "Ghosts In The Wind." Danny Thompson proving once and for all that he is simply the best. What a tremendous show!
We saw the RT/DT Duo perform in Portland 5/19. A rare treat. Superb music. Don't pass up this show. Danny Thompson is wonderful.
Morgantown, WV
May 6th, 2005
Just got back (25 minutes ago) from the concert at the Oberlin Folk Festival. A great performance. First time I've seen RT live.
I caught Richard Thompson's performance at the Rosewood in Morgantown, West Virginia on May 6, 2005. What can I say, other than, it was simply the best concert I've ever been to in my life! I was quite surprised and delighted that my favorite guitarist was making a stop in my home town. I hope Mr. Thompson will return to Morgantown again some day, as I am without transportation, so if it doesn't happen here in my home town, I don't go to it.
I attended the show in Morgantown, WV last Friday (May 6th, 2005) and just wanted to say how good it was to see Danny back on stage after his medical(?) hiatus. He was in great form while playing but one could detect by his movements taking and departing the stage that he was still a bit shaky. Richard was ebullient and in rare form, joking and interacting with the quite enthusiastic crowd. There were several standing ovations DURING the show and at the end of their long set as well as after the encores. A perfect evening! Welcome back, Danny, take care of yourself. Richard, keep on doing what you are doing!
W.Palm Beach, FL April 23, 2005

Tampa, FL
April 22, 2005
I just took my eleven year old son to see Richard tonight in Tampa. He couldn't believe how fast his fingers moved.I've enoyed your music for over thirty years.Thank You!
Richard's performance last night in Tampa was incredible!  This was my first time seeing him live and I was blown away. 1952 Vincent Black Lightning was amazing. I look forward to the new album, and to seeing him again many more times.
still reeling from first-time seeing RT live Friday.
Wonderful show in Tampa, too long between visits.
New Orleans, LA
April 21, 2005
I attended the April 21 ("Nordic Angst") show at the House of Blues in New Orleans and was blown away! I have seen Richard in a variety of settings, with and without the band, many many times over the past 16 years or so, and I am always amazed by his performances. The new songs were wonderful (can't wait for the new CD this fall!), and the show presented a nice balanced of more recent and less recent material. My friends and I all commented on how Richard's voice keeps improving, finding new depth and nuance of expression. The encore of "Al Bowlly" was breathtaking. Thank you for a wonderful show, and come back to New Orleans SOON.
Richard, thank you SO for playing Al Bowlly in New Orleans! Rather than shout out desired songs like we did in Austin and New Orleans, I'd like to request the following songs for your upcoming Nashville show: From Galway to Graceland, Keep Your Distance, Bogie's Bonnie Belle, I Can't Wake Up to Save my Life. Thanks mucho!!
Houston, TX
April 20,2005
Thank you for coming to Texas, playing in Houston at the Mucky Duck tonight. You were a tall glass of water for this thirsty Texan. Yup, I feel so good, I'd swear somebody broke my heart tonight!
What a wonderful show Richard gave us in Houston. I've seen him seven or eight times, mainly solo but also with the RT Band and Fairport Convention, and this was easily as good as any performance I've attended. That's saying something, too, because they've all been great. His wit was as sharp as ever, including some priceless responses to audience comments. The guitar playing -- what can I say, except to repeat the same old well-earned descriptions. You know - masterful, awe-inspiring, spellbinding, all the rest. For me, though, his singing was the high point in an evening of high points. Especially on older numbers such as Devonside, Down Where the Drunkards Roll, Genesis Hall and King of Bohemia, the emotion was truly moving. Even though I've heard these songs hundreds of times, they seemed new somehow.
Thanks, Richard. Come back to play for us again soon.
Austin, TX
April 19,2005
A simple "Thank you" for singing "Persuasion" tonight (4.19.05) at the Texas Union Theatre. You made my day...no, make that my week...my month...my year...
Great show: fresh, innovative, out-of-the-box, inspirational.
Thank you for a superb show in Austin, Tx (despite the audience members constantly yelling out requests at the top of their lungs--what's up with that?) Come back soon, RT!
Dallas, TX
April 18,2005
Great show in Dallas
Hope the finger nail heals
Nobody does Britany Spears covers like the master
I wanted to say "Thanks" to Richard for coming to Dallas and putting on such a great show.  Richard cut his finger (or nail?)  on the second song and I'm pretty sure he was in some serious pain throughout the show.  I'm also a guitar player and I was cringing and feeling miserable just knowing how unpleasant the whole experience was for him.  Some guy kept yelling "Beeswing!!" and I wanted to punch him for being so inconsiderate.  Richard was also kind of hoarse.  Just his speaking voice.  His singing was great as usual.  I've experienced both types of performance evil (fingers and voice) and that made me all the more impressed! This was the fifth or sixth time I've had the pleasure of seeing Richard live and he performed like only a true professional can.  Basically, he turned lemons into lemonade and put on a really great show. Seeing Richard live is a battery charging experience for me.  Every live show has me running home and playing the guitar all night.  He has always been an inspiration  for my playing, singing and songwriting.  Please pass on my appreciation.
I think Richard must be the reincarnation of one of the famous troubadors from the south of France in the 12th century. His talent certainly seems to have been several lifetimes in the making. Thank you Richard for a wonderful show in Dallas last night 4/18/05. Please do more historical recordings--or just keep doing what you are doing--12th-21st century troubador.
